old Travel Blogs

While some people have their hearts set on a road trip, others may be skeptical. Am I ready to drive in another country? Will I be able to read road signs? What if I have to drive on the other side of the road?! Hey, you- take a deep breath. You’re not the only one who feels anxious about self-drive vacations. It’s normal!
With today’s technology, (yes, we mean GPS), road trips have gotten a lot easier. Type in your destination, and hit the road! Here’s why we love self-drive vacations; and we hope you will, too.

Explore at your own pace

Self-drive vacations grant you the potential to see a lot. With a free range to roam far and wide, it can feel like there’s a lot of ground to cover. Whereas escorted tours usually run on strictly timed schedules, self-drive vacations run at your own pace. If you’re the type of traveler who loves jam-packed days, by all means, go for it! If you’re a more relaxed traveler who prefers leisurely immersing yourself in day-to-day culture, put the car in park and lay low. With a self-drive vacation, you’re on nobody’s watch but your own.

Comfort and privacy

Let’s admit it- cars are for more than just driving. They’re for eating when you order a meal to go, they’re for changing into a swimsuit when you pass a pretty lake – they kind of turn into homes on the road. In a car, you don’t have to worry about other people on a bus or a train, just you, your travel partner, and the open road.

Freedom and flexibility

When you have your own car, you call the shots. You’re the one who chooses what sites to see, which towns to visit, where to eat, and when to do it all. Let’s say there’s a city you really want to visit, but your GPS says it’ll take 5 hours to get there. A self-drive vacation is one of the only times you’ll be able to say, “let’s just go for it.”
Off the beaten path stops
Sometimes, the best memories take place in the most unexpected places. Take the scenic route and find cute farmstands, hidden beaches, quaint shops, and inviting restaurants! When you get that urge to pull over and explore, don’t hesitate. Who knows what you might find!

Stories to tell

Any and every vacation will leave you with stories to tell, but there’s something about a road trip that makes stories a little more special. For years, you’ll find yourself reminiscing about the time you stopped in a small town to use a restroom and you unexpectedly came across one of your favorite restaurants – or something like that. The uniqueness of a self-drive vacation is that you are in the driver’s seat, writing new chapters as you roam!

Make sure to pack a Travel Safety Kit

Your road trip will be more comfortable and feel safer if you make sure you have all the essentials at hand. There will be times during your trip where it may not be possible to avoid all contact with other people or much used surfaces. This kit should include what you need in order to both stay safe and meet local requirements.

Here’s what to pack:

Enough of your medications to last throughout the trip (and a little extra).

You never know if local pharmacies will be able to fill your prescriptions or whether they have common meds out of stock. Bringing your own supply makes sense.

A daily supply of disposable masks

Many states require face coverings when in public and some states have special rules targeting visitors from other states. Make sure you check out the various guidelines in place at the destinations you will be visiting or even traveling through. Some states have travel restrictions for visitors from other parts of the country. Make sure you know what the situation is before heading to these destinations.

Hand sanitizer

Different areas of the country have been affected at different times. This means you cannot be certain that the places you visit will have a handy supply of sanitizer. The solution is to bring your own. It is extremely practical when you can’t get to a hand washing facility immediately after shopping or visiting an area where you wind up touching things that may have been handled by others.

Disinfecting wipes

These are a must have for when you stay in a hotel or other accommodation. Use them to wipe down high-touch areas such as door knobs, TV remote controls, sink and tub faucets , and other surfaces you will be using when staying overnight. The CDC offers complete advice for cleaning and sanitizing places where you stay here.

Disposable gloves

A road trip usually means you will need to get gas. Disposable gloves are a safer way to handle the gas pumps, touch screens, and enter in pin numbers when making payments. They are also a good idea to wear when cleaning your accommodations with sanitizing wipes upon arrival.

Toilet paper and paper towels

Use these to open doors and turn faucets, especially in public bathrooms that get lots of use.

Be aware of ways to limit contact with people.

This vacation will be different from other vacations. Bars and restaurants are not all open and even when they are, the experience is different. Look for places where seating is in outdoor spaces. Even better, consider opting for takeout with curbside pick-up. Purchasing online gets rid of the need to touch cash or punch in pin numbers. Pack enough non-perishable snacks for the entire trip. This will help limit snacking stops at convenience stores or supermarkets. Don’t forget a cooler full of drinks.
Some visitor spots may indicate busy hours on their web site. Look to stay clear of those hours in order to be able to practice social distancing more easily.

Know the guidelines for your destination.

This is a fluid situation and things can change rapidly. Knowing what the local rules in each state are empowers you to be ready and gives you the reassurance that you know how to navigate the situation. The AARP keeps a page with the rules for each state up to date here.

Plan ahead

Make sure your car is in good shape on things like tire condition and oil changes. You don’t want the hassle of a mechanical breakdown. Consider using a rental car instead. Most of the major car rental agencies have made a commitment to implement enhanced sanitizing procedures before letting you get behind the wheel. If it makes you feel better, bring enough sanitizing wipes to give the car a once over on your own as well.
Take the time to map out your trip as well. Use services such as Google Maps or Roadtrippers to plan your trip mile but mile and stop by stop. Having your trip plan with you on your phone lets you better plan each day and will help you avoid missing things.
Bring along a play list of music that fits your trip. For example, if you are visiting New England seaside towns, load some sailors sea shanties on your phone, or if you are driving through the amazing parks of the wild west, bring along the soundtracks to some spaghetti westerns to match the mood. Adding the right music will make the trip not only more fun, you will remember more of it whenever you hear that music again. Services like Spotify premium will allow you to download your music for playing in places where internet service may be uneven.

If you are dreaming about a Fiji vacation, here are some helpful tips to consider before you contact Ever Ready Travel to help you plan it!

Weather & Clothing

Fiji is a beautiful vacation destination with year-round warm weather, perfect for sunbathing, snorkeling, and more! April through November is the dry season, when the temperatures are slightly cooler but still perfect for having fun in the sun! November through April is the wet summer season. If traveling during these months, be sure to pack a raincoat and umbrella!

It is important to note that while beachwear is appropriate for resorts, it is encouraged to dress more conservatively in the towns and villages. Women should keep their shoulders and knees covered, while men should wear shirts and longer shorts. Sunglasses and hats should be removed upon entering a village, out of respect to the Fijian culture. The head is considered to be very sacred and should never be touched without permission.

Culture

One of the cultural highlights of your trip is sure to be the singing greetings. Locals gather with ukeleles and sing to visitors as a welcome to their island or resort! There may even be a farewell song, too!
It is also standard for Fijians to head to church on Sundays. This means that many businesses, shops, and even boat services won’t be open. Sundays are considered to be a day of rest in the Fijian culture, so it is important to bear that in mind when planning your trip! Consider it a built-in day for extra relaxation!

Fiji Time

Due to the relaxed nature of Fiji, you may not see as many clocks or people wearing watches. The concept of “Fiji Time” is meant to recognize the fact that there is no regimented scheduling here. Shops may or may not open on time, and no one complains! Just go with the island flow.

Language

While most Fijians speak English, there are a handful of local words and phrases that you may hear during your vacation. If you’re wanting to connect with (and impress) the locals, consider saying “Bula” (boo-lah) upon arrival, meaning “hello.” “Vinaka” (vee-naka) means “thank you.” You’ll use both of these phrases often during your trip!

Food & Water

Kava is a traditional Fijian drink made from ground pepper plant. It is a watery, earthy-smelling drink that is not as spicy as you’d think, considering what it’s made from. Locals enjoy a Kava in the same way alcohol is consumed, for relaxation. In terms of food, be sure to eat deep water fish, such as mahi mahi and tuna. Stay away from reef fish, as you can become ill. Water should always be filtered and/or boiled before drinking. Drinking bottled water is an excellent way to ensure that you’ll stay healthily hydrated throughout your vacation.

Medication & Vaccinations

It is essential to pack bug spray, as mosquitoes are very common in Fiji. It is recommended to carry it with you and to reapply throughout the day, especially at night and if near the water. Additional recommended medications include Imodium or Lomotil, an antibiotic, motion sickness medicine, and a general first aid kit.
In addition to normal, routine vaccinations, it is recommended that travelers to Fiji also have Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccinations. Both of these diseases can be contracted in Fiji through contaminated food or water. The Hepatitis B vaccination is recommended to those who are considering getting a tattoo or piercing during their trip. While not mandatory, these vaccines can significantly reduce the risk of disease during your trip.

Transportation

The main method of transportation between islands is via boat. On each island, you have the option to take buses, vans, and taxis to get around. If traveling via taxi, be sure to ask for the price beforehand. It’s also important to know that some taxi’s won’t move until they’re full! It is not recommended to rent a car in Fiji due to the unfamiliar driving styles and road rules.

Money

While credit cards are accepted in most major locations, having cash for markets and smaller islands is a great idea. It is easy to convert cash upon arrival in Fiji. ATMs are not commonly found though, so don’t rely on them!

Animals

It is quite common to see stray dogs running through the streets of Fiji. They should not be fed and should be left alone. You may hear them barking at night, which is also normal. You may also see horses or cows wandering on the roads. All of these occurrences are normal parts of Fijian life!

Palm Trees

If you take refuge from the sun under a palm tree but see coconuts laying on the ground nearby, get up! More people are killed each year from falling coconuts than from shark attacks! You’re better off bringing an umbrella or parasol with you for shade.

Packing Essentials

You will definitely want to bring an adapter to charge your electronic devices. Sunscreen and bug spray are crucial! Some essentials like antibacterial wipes, hand sanitizer, and sunglasses should always be thrown in your carry on! You’ll want to bring printed copies of all of your travel information– planes, hotels, transfers, tours, etc. In general, you’ll want to pack light, as some islands impose restrictions on the number of bags allowed as well as the weight of each item.

Winter is in full swing and you know what that means–everyone is dreaming about summer. Laying on a warm, sandy beach sipping an ice-cold cocktail. Spending days frolicking in crystal clear blue waters. Trading in parkas for bathing suits. It all sounds pretty perfect right about now as we await the next big snowstorm.
There are, in fact, some places around the world that never get cold. If you’re craving an escape from the bitter cold, check out these destinations to help warm your hands (and your heart).

Paros, Greece

Best known for its beautiful beaches, Paros is a gorgeous Greek island located in the Aegean Sea. The coolest weather is generally in January and February, but temps still stay in the mid-upper 50s, making it perfectly acceptable to visit year-round. Take a trip in July or August for prime heat and sunshine!

Belize

Some like it hot, and those who do will love visiting Belize! The temperatures here generally stay between 70 and 88 degrees throughout the year. Occasionally, they’ll dip below 70 or rise above 90, but it’s certainly not something to worry about! The best time to visit is between January and April, but when the weather is this good, there’s truly no bad time to visit.

Oahu, Hawaii

Hawaii really only abides by two seasons: Summer and Winter. However, their Winter isn’t exactly cold, (unless you consider lows in the mid-60s cold, in which case, see above for Belize and hotter temps!). No matter the time of year, you’ll enjoy temperatures in the upper-70s to mid-80s. Oahu is an ideal choice because it is home to Honolulu and Waikiki Beach!

Bahamas

Temperatures in the Bahamas rarely dip below the 60 degree mark–ideal for warm-weather lovers! Their year is split into a wet season (June-October) and a drier season (November-May). With the average temperature sitting somewhere between 66 degrees and 90 degrees year-round, it’s always a good time to visit the Bahamas!

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Peak travel time to Puerto Vallarta is December through May, when it’s less rainy and still warm. Temperatures hover around 80 degrees, with lows in the low-60s. June through November is the rainy season, when temperatures rise to around 90 degrees on average. Still, Puerto Vallarta is a vibrant resort town with incredible nightlife–and great weather!

Fiji

The tropical climate of Fiji makes for a perfect vacation any time of year. With temperatures sitting in the 80s regardless of the month, you’re just left to decide if you’d rather visit during the dry season or rainy season. Keep in mind: Winter in Fiji is July and August, and Summer is December and January!

Galapagos Islands

Ecuador consistently ranks among the best places for retirees to relocate! This is not only because of the warm weather, but also due to its position on the equator resulting in 12 hours of daily sunlight! On average, the coastal part of the country hovers around 77 degrees. The Galapagos Islands in particular have an average temperature of around 80 degrees, making it a perfect warm-weather destination!

In no particular order, each of these man-made historical wonders reveals a key, unlocking some kind of mystery about our ancient past.

Pyramids of Giza

Often hailed as one of the most mind-blowing sites for its sheer size, the Pyramids of Giza are over 3,000 years old and saturated in mystery. The best part of these historical marvels? No one has quite been able to satisfy the answer to how they got there. Not only is each one of the three main pyramids exactly aligned with the Three Kings in the constellation of Orion, but some of the chambers inside also align with the solstices. Was it aliens? A feat of human engineering? Or something stranger? As they say, the truth can be stranger than fiction, and for that, the Egyptian Pyramids of Giza qualify as being life-changing.

Machu Pichu

Deep in the mountains of southern Peru, the ruined city of Machu Pichu sits high atop a sunlit peak. This ancient Incan city has rightfully earned the recognition as one of the “New Seven Wonders of the World.” This spectacular site is not easily accessed though, and to catch a glimpse of it you’ll have to work for it. The best way to witness Machu Pichu is to head south from Cusco and then take a four-day hike up into the mountains. There is the option of taking a train to reach the peak, but hiking through scenic canyon walls to discover the city surely contributes to being a life-changing and memorable experience.

The Colosseum

One of the most fascinating things about Rome is that thousand-year-old historical structures still stand beside more modern constructed buildings. This is the case with the Roman Colosseum, where Italian bistros sit across the street from a place where gladiators once fought to the death thousands of years ago. The Colosseum has the power to change lives because it transports the spectator back to a civilization that, at one time, ruled a large majority of Europe. Though most of the Colosseum is off-limits due to its crumbling infrastructure, taking a tour through the arena is still possible and it certainly ranks as one of the most incredible things to do in Rome.

Taj Mahal

This ivory-white marble mausoleum on the southern bank of the Yamuna river is another stunning historical site. Built as a testament to undying love, the Taj Mahal was constructed to honor the deceased wife of Emperor Shah Jahan in the mid-1600s. It is truly an architectural masterpiece, with styles combined from Persian, Ottoman Turkish and Indian architecture. For this reason, the Taj Mahal draws in nearly 3 million guests each year. Unfortunately, the excess of air pollution in the area is slowly eroding the white marble, but this makes the reason to visit all the greater.

The Great Wall of China

Though the list could go on and on, the Great Wall of China seems like the best possible location to round off our list. To put it simply, the Great Wall of China is massive, estimated to be at least 13,000 miles in length. This incredible undertaking was originally conceived of by Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the third century BC to keep Mongol invaders out of the country. Though the Great Wall was built in sections over the next two-thousand years, it’s hard to fathom how big this Chinese monument is. On these grounds, visiting the Great Wall of China can be incredibly transformative, as it is virtually unlike anything else in existence today.

No Passport? No Problem. Here’s How You Can Sail the Great Lakes!

Those who call the mid-west home in the United States have a freshwater treasure trove right in their back yard. Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior—there’s a reason these Great lakes have affectionately received the acronym H.O.M.E.S.
They are truly some of the most unique lakes around.
If you don’t own a passport, or you simply don’t have any interest to leave the country, sailing the Great Lakes can give you the same feeling of touring the high seas. It’s no wonder that people come from all over the world just to get a glimpse of these natural freshwater beauties.
Cast open the sails, man the helm: here’s how you too can sail the Great Lakes!

Preparing for your adventure

The first thing you’ll need to determine is if you’ll be bringing your own sailboat, or if you plan to charter a sailboat. If you go the route of dropping in your own sailboat, there are plenty of marinas and harbors in the towns surrounding the Great Lakes.
If you go the route of chartering a boat, you’ll additionally need to consider whether you want a crewed or bareboat sailing journey. Each option offers different kinds of freedoms: either you’ll be able to sail where you want at your own leisure for the duration of your trip, or an experienced crew (usually including a chef) and skipper will handle the responsibilities of sailing.
In either event, you’ll need to be sure exactly how involved you want to be in the sailing.
There are also essential items that you’ll probably want to bring aboard your vessel. Always wear sunscreen and protective clothing while out in the open water. UV rays from the sun are much stronger on the lakes, mostly because the sun’s rays bounce openly off the water. It’s also a good idea to prepare a first aid kit ahead of time.
Make sure to bring entertainment on board as well, such as waterproof speakers, playing cards, cameras, snorkeling gear, and water toys.

Top destinations in each lake

If you’re wondering about where to go once you’re on the water, each lake has its own particular beauty. If you do research ahead of time, try to mark interesting locations on a map and make a game out of finding them all!
Below are some of the top locations for sailing in each of the five Great Lakes.
Lake Huron – Mackinaw Island in the Straits of Mackinac just above Michigan’s Lower Peninsula
Lake Ontario – Endymion Island in the Thousand Islands National Park south of Athens, Ontario
Lake Michigan – Leelanau Peninsula at the northwestern tip of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula
Lake Erie – Presque Isle State Park peninsula in Erie, Pennsylvania
Lake Superior – Apostle Islands off the Bayfield Peninsula in northern Wisconsin
Whether it’s for fishing, scuba diving, swimming, or simply chartering a vessel on open water, sailing the Great Lakes is a perfect option for single or multi-day excursions. The best part is, if you’re already living in the US then you don’t have to go very far a maritime experience.
With several options for sailing on the Great Lakes, Ever Ready Travel can help you plan an unforgettable adventure that suits your taste and needs.

In 1922, the face of ocean travel was forever changed as the Cunard Line’s Laconia initiated the first-ever continuous circumnavigation of the globe. The cruise was meant to travel along stretches first explored by Magellan’s fleet four hundred years earlier. Although the Laconia met an unfortunate demise during World War II, her 130-day maiden voyage was made complete as she arrived back in New York on March 30th, 1923.

Today, circumnavigating the globe on a cruise liner has become much more feasible and safe. Sailing the high seas with an around-the-world cruise remains as one of the greatest travel experiences known to humankind.

If a week-long cruise doesn’t sound like quite enough time to relax, perhaps sailing the globe for 100 lavish nights would suit your style more.

World cruises are now booking for 2020, 2021, and 2022. It’s time to mark your calendar for an extremely awesome getaway!

What you need to know

Around-the-world voyages typically start in January and end in late April or early May. Some of the most popular world cruises don’t actually sail all the way around the world, but instead, offer a chance to experience many diverse cultures during a trip.

Itineraries vary widely and trips often need to be booked well in advance. The type of ship you choose can also drastically change your experience while sailing between the numerous global destinations offered.

For example, if you decide on a luxury cruise liner, expect to be pampered with full-service goods and accommodations. These ships are also usually much smaller than their commercial counterparts, so you can expect to get the attention you need.

On the other hand, if you decide on a popular commercial cruise company, expect to be placed on a bigger ship with less comprehensive service. Though, where these ships may lack in all-inclusive service, they make up for in sheer size. This can be a great option if you’re interested in having access to more pools, larger casinos, and more exciting live entertainment.

If you’re seeking something in between these two options, the premium around-the-world cruise liners have good-quality service without sacrificing service to the thousands of guests that a popular commercial cruise liner would have.

Regardless of which type of cruise line you pick, a world cruise offers convenience and comfort unparalleled by other forms of global travel. Imagine yourself kicking back with a cocktail during lazy sea days and exploring foreign cultures during port stops. Not to mention, you only have to unpack once for the entire duration of your extended stay.

If you find yourself growing bored during week-long journeys in between ports, you can also find plenty to do aboard the boat, from yoga classes, informative lectures, live performances, and even all-you-can-eat exotic buffets.

An around-the-world cruise isn’t the cheapest form of travel, but it can be a perfect option for retirees or students who have managed to save for their gap year. There is also the possibility of staying for a shorter length of the journey and finding discounts on airfare to return home.

The possibilities are virtually endless!

What do you think? Would you take the opportunity to sail around the world for over 100 days, visiting over 60 ports across five continents?

If so, you might want to find space for all of those wonderful souvenirs you’ll inevitably accumulate.  Reach out to Ever Ready Travel today to help you plan this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Don’t Leave Fido at Home! Make Traveling With Your Pet a Rewarding Experience for Both

You know that look in their eyes. Somehow, in some way, your pet just knows that you’re preparing to leave on vacation. It’s usually subtle—a whimper here, a head droop there—but you and your pet have a bond unlike any other. You both know that you’re going to be apart.
But why settle for separation?
You no longer have to leave your favorite fluffy, feathery, or scaly friend behind when it comes to making travel decisions. By considering the vast amount of pet-friendly hotels, tour companies, airlines, and destinations available, with help from Ever Ready Travel, you can easily plan a trip with your pet in the picture.

Finding lodging for Fido

There are literally thousands of hotels that accommodate pets, so finding lodging shouldn’t be much of a problem. Whether you’re in the market for budget options, or you’re seeking full-blown luxury hotels for you and your pet, there’s a little something for everyone.
Some of the top hotels to look into for pet-friendly accommodations are Kimpton Hotels, La Quinta, Four Seasons, Best Western, Fairmont Hotels, Red Roof Inn, and Hotel Indigo. A few of these hotels do not charge a nightly fee for pet guests, while others offer welcoming treats and pet beds.
There’s also the option of booking through local lodgings, such as a bed & breakfast, certain hostels, or even renting a house for the duration of your stay. Always be sure to check in advance to ensure that a particular location will allow pets.

Flying with Fido

Fortunately for your animal friend, more than 1 million pets in the US fly along with their owners every year. Although each airline has particular rules and bans on particular species, most types of pets are allowed to fly with their owners.
However, in this case, size does matter. Pets too large to travel in the cabin of the plane or that can’t be in the cabin for other reasons will have to fly in a proper container in the baggage hold.
There is also the added consideration of cost. Although money obviously would never come between you and your animal, you’ll have to shell out at least an extra $250 round-trip to bring your animal along on most airlines.

Friendly destinations for Fido

When it comes to traveling with your pet, you want to make sure it’s enjoyable for both you and your companion. Finding pet-friendly activities can sometimes prove to be difficult in certain areas, but there are several tour companies out there that cater to animal-owners.
Even then, some destinations are just more enjoyable than others for your companion to experience the joys of travel.
Some of the top-rated cities for pets are Asheville, Austin, Albuquerque, Bar Harbor, Charlottesville, Clearwater, Flagstaff, Fort Myers, Huntington Beach, Key West, Portland, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Seattle, and Wilmington.

Friends forever

Traveling for business or pleasure takes on a whole new meaning when you’re able to bring your pet along. After all, why would you want to keep the experience to yourself? There are tons of sights, smells, and sounds taking place around every corner.
So call the sitter, pack some extra pet food, and get your animal companion excited, because you’re probably never going to travel without your pet again! And, don’t forget to partner with Ever Ready Travel to help you plan such a wonderful, pet-friendly trip!

The length of time between you and your vacation is shortening and your excitement is growing fast. It feels like forever that you’ve been waiting for this. Aside from the much-needed relaxation time you’re about to reward yourself with, you’re also looking forward to seeing new attractions, meeting new people, and altogether indulging in your getaway.
You’ve spent hours doing research and you’ve purchased all the necessary maps, but there’s one thing you may have overlooked: travel etiquette. Maintaining it is a fundamental responsibility. These simple tips will help ensure that you’re not stepping on anyone’s toes as you immerse yourself into an unfamiliar culture.

Be respectful of public spaces

I know, I know. Taking selfies in front of the world’s greatest attractions is possibly irresistible. But think about how you might be holding up a local’s day if you’re standing in the middle of the sidewalk, or worse yet, in the road. Having etiquette in a foreign culture means being mindful of your space, even when the locals are not. Sure, you may get pushed past while trying to board the subway, but keep in mind that for many people it’s just another day in the life.

Use your manners in the local language

It’s true, many locals are more willing to warm up to you if you can speak their language. Even if it’s just a simple “hello,” “goodbye,” or “thank you,” speaking the native tongue can earn you a fair amount of sympathy from a native. There’s no need to fret over unintentionally getting wrapped up in a conversation you’re unable to carry out—most people will be able to tell you’re just visiting. But it sure sounds a lot better when you know a few native words, rather than just barging in expecting everyone will know your language.

Be considerate of regional laws

Having etiquette while traveling doesn’t just mean avoiding driving the wrong way on a one-way road. It also means that you shouldn’t take pictures in no photo zones, or that you shouldn’t park your bicycle on the sidewalk. Even if you can’t read the posted signs around town, it can still be decipherable when an icon is present. You could also use a translation app on your phone, when in doubt. The best thing is just to avoid doing anything that the natives wouldn’t do. It also doesn’t hurt to do a little research ahead of time on the local laws.

Have courtesy by following cultural customs

In Japan, people greet each other by bowing. In Spain, you’re meant to double-kiss another on the cheek. In India, you’re supposed to put your palms together and say “Namaste” upon greeting someone. But greetings aren’t the only cultural practices you should be mindful of. In South Korea, leaving gratuity after a meal is sometimes considered rude. It’s also frowned upon in Italy to eat or drink on the steps of a church, and in certain historic parts of Greece, high heels are not acceptable. Dressing appropriately, knowing when it’s possible to bargain, and using local manners are a must in any culture.

Just be a nice person

Kindness goes a long way no matter where you’re traveling to. Most people are willing to forgive any accidental ignorance, but their outlook on a sense of entitlement is much different. Always remember that you’re a visitor in an area that someone else calls home. Stay humble, stay polite, and do your research in advance. You just might find that carrying a healthy dose of travel etiquette will enhance your vacation in many unpredictable ways.

The pursuit of the foodie is one that never ends. There are literally thousands of dishes all around the world just waiting to be consumed. So many in fact, that you’d have to eat multiple meals a day in various countries to try them all! Not a terrible deal if you can figure out how to make it work.

The following is a list guaranteed to make your tummy rumble and your mouth water. These are the top 7 foreign dishes you’ve never heard of (but have to try)!

  • Francesinha

Our first stop is in Portugal for this sandwich nicknamed “Little Frenchie.” This mouth-watering sandwich is guaranteed to whet the appetite of any food-lover. Usually made with wet-cured ham, steak, and linguica (a type of smoked pork sausage), this sandwich is topped with melted cheese and a steamy thick tomato and beer sauce.

  • Marabak Manis

Next up, this Indonesian sweet pancake is a popular sweet treat in Indonesia. Traditionally, these ultra-thick pancakes are filled with chocolate sprinkles, crushed peanuts, sesame seeds, and condensed milk. The sweet and delectable filling will leave you craving for more.

  • Rakfisk

Third on our list is this iconic Norwegian dish, which will please any foodie’s palate. Rakfisk is perhaps Norway’s smelliest dish, but oh-so=delicious. Made by sprinkling trout with salt and letting it ferment in water for two to three months, or even up to a year, the dish is made complete with onions and sour cream all wrapped together.

  • Borscht

Russia is the home of our next exotic food lover’s dish. Borscht is a soup made of beetroots, usually served cold and with sour cream on the side. The iconic ruby color of the soup is nearly unforgettable. Although the dish doesn’t require pairing it with Russian vodka, it wouldn’t be truly authentic without it.

  • Biltong

If you’re a fan of beef jerky, you’ll love biltong. This South African dried meat is usually cured with vinegar, salt, and several additional spices. After that, it is hung and left to air dry before consumption. Biltong, in its basic form, is usually dried steak, but sometimes you can find ostrich meat biltong in the South African shops.

  • Molokhia

Also known as Jute, this Egyptian dish comes from the name of the plant central to its flavor. Molokhia is slightly bitter, similar to okra, and when freshly minced and cooked down, it makes a kind of cherished soupy consistency. The leaves are then added to a stock of garlic and coriander and served over rice. It’s generally served with chicken, lamb, fish, or even rabbit as well.

  • Soused Herring

If you have a love for fishy dishes, this Holland dish could take you to a whole new level. Any sea-foodie is guaranteed to find joy in this raw herring filet. Usually marinated in a mild vinegar with cider, wine or tea, sugar, bay leaf, chopped onion, and various spices, this fishy dish can be eaten raw or lightly cooked.

Baseball is a popular sport in the US and around the world. The game originated from the American and East Asian continents. Many countries adopted this sport as their favorite time hobby. The history of the game goes back to 1744 in the British publication, but it was made most popular in America.
Around 1850, various Pro Leagues were established; the game got global recognition. Nowadays, people watch the league with passion and pray that their team wins the league. Right now, the 2019 Major league Baseball Season is in full swing and it is expected to end on September 29th. So, there is still time to watch your favorite team playing to win the championship.
Personally, I am a big fan of the Chicago Cubs and I hope that they win the World Series. Currently, they have the best run differential at 99+ in the league. If they win this year, they will be marking a third strike on the National League Championship Series. Many players of the team have already been on the Hall of Fame. And after this year, they will tie to go on the Baseball Hall of Fame, NY.
So, if you are a baseball fan and interested in planning to go on a trip to see your favorite team playing, take a look at the following tips.

Tip 1: Plan and save:

Whether you are planning to go on a road trip, or you want to travel by air, planning is the most important part of the trip. Ever Ready Travel can help you with a themed road trip (or you can fly). You must have an idea of the place you want to go. Give me the details and I will research properly to ensure that your team will be in the same city. If you do it yourself and make a simple mishap, this can ruin your plans.
The most effective way to create this trip is to know which teams and where you want to see them play, save up for it, and partner with me at Ever Ready Travel to make this dream trip come true.

Tip 2: Book tickets in advance:

If you don’t know this, then let me tell you that when the game is around the corner, the price of the ticket goes skyrocket high (similar to travel). Once you have picked out the dates of your travel, it is time that you set a plan where you can see all your favorite teams from the league.
Did you know that Ever Ready Travel can help you book sports tickets, in addition to music concerts, City passes, excursions, etc.? Check the ticket price with me and buy them in advance. You will be glad you didn’t wait until the last minute.

Tip 3: Hotel booking:

The next thing you have to do is work with me to book a place for your stay. You obviously won’t be able to find a place to stay near the stadium unless you book with plenty of time in advance. In my professional experience planning trips daily for hundreds of clients, waiting for “last minute deals” is in vain. Within the week the game is expected, the hotel prices increase from zero to 100. Therefore, it will be better if you pre-book a hotel room before your arrival in the city.
You might wait for days to see your favorite team, but they won’t stay for you. So, you have to be on time for everything and it is an overburdening pressure. To help you with the bookings, let me know your preferences (location, size of hotel, amenities, etc.), and I can easily check availability and pricing with my wholesalers. I will then give you my best recommendations to choose from.

Tip 4: Plan your food:

don’t know why it happens, but when you are going to see away games in a new city, you feel hungrier than usual. So, when we are picking out the hotel for your stay, you can look out for nearby food options. This will ease up everything related to food. You can either order food online or you can go out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner easily.
To make sure that your baseball trip is worth your while, it is important we work as a team to plan everything ahead of schedule.

Tip 5: Essential items to pack and take with you

There are some important items you need to carry before you leave for the Chicago Cubs trip, which includes print hotel confirmations, carry a cooler full of snacks and drinks, take shorts and jackets (as you never know about weather conditions), etc.
More importantly, don’t forget about the tickets. There are a lot of people who forget about them due to the excitement. Thus, make sure to check twice that you have tickets in your bag before you step out of your home for a trip.
Once you ensure that all important things are packed, you are now ready to leave.

Tip 6: Saver the trip:

You will be a fool if you don’t saver your trip. In the excitement of seeing the baseball game, you might get carried away and forget some important things. Take a moment before you leave and think about what would really make the vacation great.
In addition to purchasing trip insurance, be sure to take a camera with you so that you can capture all the precious moments of the trip. For additional savings, you can also keep a bundle of money stacked in your bag somewhere for emergencies.
Working with a Travel Professional takes the stress off of you, and gives you peace of mind. The tips mentioned here are intended to get you thinking about a baseball trip. Once you can visualize it, I can create it! What are you waiting for? Contact us today at Jillian@everreadytravel.com to get started!

The air-transportation services have made it possible to go from one place to another in a matter of hours. For people like me, this is mostly a plus. But eventually, you will have to deal with cases of jet lag. Any flight longer than seven hours will lead to this issue.
It is no surprise when you are traveling from one time zone to another. That’s why, the spas and hotels across the globe have so many treatment options to combat fatigue, insomnia, malaise, and digestive problems linked with Jet Lag. One of the best treatments for this kind of problem came into existence in recent years and it is called Cryotherapy. But luckily, it is not the only treatment to deal with the issues.
So, in this article, I want to share some great tips to deal with jet lag. These ideas might prevent the problem entirely or, at minimum, help you cope with the symptoms.

1: Simulate to the new schedule before you travel:

The first step to deal with the leg lag issue is to prepare you for the upcoming long haul flights. When you are traveling to eat, shift your routine to going to bed early. Start doing that prior the few nights you are expected to leave.
If you are going to the West, shift your routine to the opposite side. You can even move your mealtimes closer to the time zone you will be living in the upcoming days.

2: Adapt to the new schedule:

The time zone difference can make your life difficult. You will feel tired during the daytime and won’t be able to sleep well at night. But the fact is that the problem is completely psychological. The first thing you need to do to adapt to the new schedule is change the time on your watch. Next, set the time zone according to the destination.
This will confuse your mind thinking that you are in the right zone. As a result, you are less likely to be sleepy in the daytime. But don’t force the habit otherwise you will feel frustrated. Try to rest on the plane as much as possible to avoid jet lag.

3: Try to arrive early:

If you need to be on top of your game, you have to make sure that you arrive early on your destination. It will give enough time to your mind and body to adjust to the time zone difference.

4: Stay hydrated and move around:

Don’t forget to drink water before, during, and after your flight. Keep in mind not to drink coffee or alcohol a few hours before you are supposed to sleep. It will cause dehydration and disrupt your system.
Along with the hydration, you also need to get up and take a walk. Doing some static exercises and stretch on the flight will keep your body in motion and help to avoid the jet lag problem.
Once you consider these tips, there are chances that you will be able to avoid the problem from a long-haul flight. But if you still end up feeling weird, then some methods can still cure the jet lag.

1: Melatonin:

Although jet lag is a temporary effect, it can keep you frustrated for a long time. As Melatonin is the hormone that regulates the body’s circadian rhythm, it is vital to keep the hormone in check. The only thing you need to do is reset the internal clock so that you can adjust to the time zone difference.
The Melatonin level in the body rises during the evening time and reduces with the sunrise. So, when you are traveling to a different time zone, you get exposed to light when the body’s internal clock is in a different zone. Thus, the cycle gets disrupted. So, the only thing you need to do is to take a small dose of Melatonin after dark.
But before you take the dose, don’t forget to consult your doctor. Sometimes, higher doses of melatonin can result in side effects which can cause nightmares and vivid dreams. So, take all the countermeasures to ensure that the Melatonin intake is safe for you.

2: Light exposure:

Another cure to the common jet lag problem after long-haul flights is to expose you to light. When you see a bright light at certain times of the day, it will be easy for your body’s internal clock to get in sync with the new time zone. Consider going out for the morning walk, open curtains and blindfolds in the morning, or keep the lamp on.
The light will surely reset your sleep-wake cycle according to the light exposure and you will be able to sleep and wake up on time without affecting your other systems.

3: Lavender essential oil:

Lavender is an essential oil that is popularly known for its calming properties. It can help to treat insomnia effectively. Even the aroma of this oil helps people to get quality sleep. As you travel to a different zone, the main problem faced by people as a result of jet lag is insomnia.
But lavender oil can help you fix this problem. The oil can’t alone do the wonders; you have to take care of some other things as well. To maintain a regular sleep schedule, avoid coffee and alcohol, eating late in the day, and avoid screens. Add the oil in your bathwater or sprinkle it on a tissue and inhale the oil for several minutes. Its aroma will soothe you and gradually your problems will disappear. I have an essentials oil diffuser, and love using the lavender oil in my room. It sprays a mist and makes you feel like you are relaxed in a spa. Give it a try!

4: IV therapies:

Apart from the above natural methods, you can also consider taking IV therapy. Yes, I agree that no one would like to stick a needle in themselves after traveling on a plane for multiple hours. But the administered vitamin infusions can help to cure jet lag pretty quickly.
For fun activities to relax after the long-haul flights, you can also consider taking a spa, eating sensibly, take a hot bath before bedtime and try other simple tricks to deal with jet lag.
So there you have it. I hope you found these solutions helpful to cure jet lag after a long-haul flight. Keep Ever Ready Travel in mind for your next international trip. We make dream trips come true!

Many travelers are not aware of the risks of traveling to an unknown location. But safety should be your first concern.
I have been all over the world and visited many foreign countries. Before changing careers to the travel industry, the thought of purchasing travel protection never crossed my mind. Now, I never travel without it. I realize that travel is an investment and so many things are out of our control. It’s very important to protect this investment. As a Travel Professional, I am never pushy, however, I always highly recommend a travel protection plan. If you look closer, you will realize how many benefits this plan brings in. No one can afford to risk losing thousands of dollars because of a natural accident or an injury that interrupts your vacation. I have seen clients have to spend thousands of dollars, just because they didn’t see the benefit of getting travel protection.

What is the Travel Protection Plan?

A travel protection plan is a full package offered by a travel agency that includes numerous benefits and services that are intended to make the travel safe and free of bumps. It involves protecting your travel investment, belongings, health, and various other benefits too.
International Travel can be a big deal if you are not careful enough. After all, you are going to a whole new country and you don’t know much about that place.

The travel protection plan tends to cover the following points:

Trip Cancellation:

You will be reimbursed for your non-refundable travel arrangements if you cancel the trip before departure with a valid reason. Covered reasons are typically due to weather or injury, illness, or death of self or an immediate family member.

Trip Interruption:

Reimbursement of the unused travel arrangements if the trip is interrupted and you have to return home early due to a reason covered in the policy.

Medical Expenses:

The insurance company pays the medical expenses and transportation service in case any of the travelers get sick or injured during the trip. Each policy has a maximum coverage.

Missed Connection:

This covers the additional expenses which incur as a result of alternate travel arrangements when the planned trip goes south (such as a canceled or delayed flight due to bad weather or some mechanical issues).

Travel/baggage Delay:

Expenses for the meals and accommodations are handled by the agency if the flight or your other means of transportation is delayed.

Baggage Lost:

If you end up losing your baggage or personal items on the trip or anything is damaged during the transfer, then the agency will pay you for the loss.
Many people avoid opting for the travel protection plan as they have to pay a little extra for the service. But it is a common misconception that the plan is not worth it. Instead, it completely benefits you and helps the agency to make your travel safer.
That’s why Ever Ready Travel always recommends it to their clients to travel correctly. We are well-connected and have many in-country partners which focus on making your journey safe and sound.
Here is a list of the countries which are safe for everyone to travel. Whether you are a single woman or traveling with your whole family, these destinations will make you feel that you are in the midst of the most adorable and lovable people.

I am very well-travelled and your safety is my priority. Some people learn the tips the hard way, but here I am to help you before something goes wrong with you during your travels. Take a look at these tips and keep them in mind for the next time you contact us to plan your next trip.
Don’t think you all knowing; even smarter than the scammers and thieves. Being active and on your guard is pretty good as it can prevent you from being robbed at the most unexpected times.
Keep your emergency contacts written in someplace safe, such as police contact number, embassy location, ambulance services, etc.
Never travel with your super expensive valuables. Carrying your laptop or camera is obvious for most people, but you have to be careful with them too.
Get Travel protection. As I said earlier, the travel protection plan will assure your safety along with your belongings.
Hide emergency cash as you might know when a tragedy will strike you especially when you are planning to travel alone.
Risk is practically unavoidable, but you can manage it if you are proactive. Travelling is also quite different for men and women. But the tips above will come in handy for both. As violence against women is a common issue in every corner of this world, you can always prepare a little bit more for your safety like keeping pepper spray in your pocket or learning some fighting tactics.
Keep in mind that rumors about international travel exist due to the exaggeration of media, politics, and religion diversification, but most of them are just misconceptions.
So, here we are debunking many myths so that you will feel free to travel around the globe:
Travel is Expensive: This is the biggest misconception about traveling. Your main expenses are flights, accommodation, transportation, and food. And if you look around, then you will see that these options are available at economical prices as well. It is all in our minds. Keep in mind that a high quality trip can also come at different price points (depending on current promotions and deals), and that will enhance your experience.
The world is Dangerous: Well, frankly speaking, danger follows you everywhere. Even the United States is dangerous, but that doesn’t stop you from going out and enjoying yourself with friends. Every country has rules and regulations to make the place safer for tourists. So, don’t worry!!
Age Doesn’t Matter: You can never be too young or too old to travel. You can do that at any point in life. Just pack your bags and leave the house.
Credit Cards are stupid financial mistakes: Many people say that but in reality, when you are traveling internationally, credits can help you deal with additional expenses and you can pay the amount gradually throughout the year. Now credit cards don’t look that stupid, right??
So, stop making excuses for not traveling enough. If you have the guts to think about traveling, then you can also make your travel dream true. And don’t forget, Ever Ready Travel is here to help.

It doesn’t matter how much fun traveling is. In reality, it causes more damage to nature than we realize. Unknowingly, we are leaving a charcoal smudge all over the destinations we travel to and we can help it. Once people realize that they contribute to environmental damage, they want to learn more about eco-friendly options.
The planes we travel in spew carbon emissions, hotels guzzle water to launder sheets and towels, and the thirsty travelers throw up lots of plastic bottles and wrappers all over the cities. But don’t feel guilty due to these reasons. Sustainable travel practice can help you to lighten up the blemishes that you leave on Mother Earth.
Green travel is more like a portable lifestyle choice. According to the surveys, people traveling all over the world have made more sound choices over recent years. Even a small step can make a big change like turning off the lights when you leave the room. Sustainable travel is all about creating a positive impact on the communities you visit. It is popularly said that you should leave any place place better than you found it.
So, here are some tips that will help you to be a green traveler who understands the negative role we play in degrading our environment. If you keep these tips in mind, it will be easy for you to become a valuable member of the communities that are working to preserve Mother Nature.

1: Pick A Green Destination:

There isn’t a single place on this Earth that is entirely green as all places have their flaws. However, you can choose the destination in the cities of the countries which demonstrate strict rules and regulation for the people to be good stewards. There are lots of travel detonations that offer a commitment to Earth-friendly policies. There are recycle bins at every corner of the road, and tips and rules are highlighted everywhere to follow the right practices of green travel. Rio de Prata, Namibia, Ecuador, etc. all these places are filled with life as the environmental damage is kept at a minimum.
We can also contribute to the cause and help them keep the environment safe and sound.

2: Opt for A Green Mode of Transportation:

While Mother Nature has provided us with so many things, it is our job to be a good steward and give back to her, too. Instead of using vehicles that emit greenhouse gas that pollute the air, you should switch to using your own power to get around. Ever Ready Travel can help you plan hiking, cycling, and other physical activities for fun instead of bus or car transportation.
Considering the impact personal vehicles have on the environment, buses and trains are a much better alternative to reduce the negative effects. Trains are generally more environment-friendly as they can carry a large number of people at once and don’t leave residue or gas that cause a greenhouse effect.
Even if you plan to drive, consider renting a fuel-efficient vehicle like the electric car which has a negligible impact on nature. Also, some people think that ships, cruises, and boats are also efficient, but the truth is quite the opposite. They bring more harm than good both to the environment and human health. And there is not a green-way of flying either. These are hard to completely avoid. At last, all we can ask you to do is to minimize these means of transportation, when possible.

3: Choose a Green Hotel:

Ever Ready Travel will gladly help you find an eco-friendly hotel. It is a part of your eco-friendly travel to stay in a hotel that is working to reduce the harm caused to nature.
And by this, we don’t mean look for a hotel which is quiet and elegant or have ponds and plants around. Here, we would like you to focus on the terms on which the hotel operates the in-house green program. Call the front desk and ask them how they compost, how they dispose of the gray water, inquire about the fixtures, toiletries, and in-room recycling bins. Some hotels also employ a sustainable wastewater management system to do their part for nature.
Many hotels all around the globe are accredited by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. This means that the hotels follow the approach of sustainable travel, i.e. environmental, economic, and social. If you get an opportunity to stay in an eco-lodge, that is an even better option.

4: Engage in Green Activities:

Yes, you can also lend your hand in serving nature during your vacations. The green movement has already changed how we preserve and protect nature. So, you can opt-in for earth-friendly options like sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, paddleboat, kayaking, swimming, or hiking. Visit local food markets and use a reusable bag for the purchases. Hire local guides for the trips and donate some money for a charity or local conversation group.

5: Avoid Unethical Activities:

Being a good steward is all about your attitude. You can go renewable wherever possible. Plus, it’s important to respect the wildlife around you. Don’t encourage unethical animal tourism. Avoid riding on elephants or trying to pet sedated predators. Swimming with dolphins, human safaris, coral reefs destruction, etc. all are unethical activities and you should avoid them under all circumstances.
Travel can expand our minds and promote intercultural understanding. You might think that doing some stupid things will look good for Instagram pictures but you don’t need to exploit the natural resources for that. So, before you go pack and leave your home, think about how your travel will affect nature and this planet.
Making your travel eco-friendly doesn’t cost much apart from a few changes. But it has a long-term impact on the environment. Your decision to make eco-friendly travel is one of the best deeds you can do. Travel is always seen as a positive experience and something that enriches human life. Therefore, it is our moral and ethical duty to do our best to preserve Mother Nature and Go Green.

Camping usually involves bugs, tents, having to sleep on a bed made of twigs, the possibility of bears or skip showering all weekend. But there’s a new fascinating trend when it comes to camping this summer – Glamorous Camping or Glamping, where camping is combined with style and luxury!! To truly dwell on the beauty of the bright night sky and bond with nature, you’ve got to get out of the city, deep into the woods! With Glamping, you can sleep under the stars, gaze at the sparkling Milky Way, enjoy a retreat to a comfy bed, electricity, more integrated cooking facilities, rugs, fairy lights, and even a private bathroom. You remain close to nature and can spend time outdoors cooking a barbecue or reading a book in the sunshine. And like typical American weather if it rains you can head indoors too! While the combination of glamour and camping was first used back in 2005, its addition to the Merriam-Webster dictionary in early 2018 is proof that travelers’ predilection for seeing the serene outdoors while also having access to running water and air conditioning is no longer just a trend. Not convinced? Well, these beautiful places will make you want to glam up your first camping trip!

You must have seen a river cruise in movies and thought of spending your holidays on one. Whether it is USA, Europe, or Asia, you can get on-board on having a new experience in your life. River cruising gives a feel of fairy tales, and unlike the massive Ocean cruise, you get a chance to feel intimate with the sea.
When you travel by a riverboat, you get a better opportunity to explore the Mississippi or Columbia rivers, embarking an exotic escapade along the Nile or discovering the holiness of River Ganges. At the end of your journey, you’ll come away with a deeper appreciation for cruising with a riverboat.

Ocean Cruise vs. River Cruise:

River Cruising is considered a much better experience by the travelers as it has several positive points. So, let’s compare the benefits of cruising on a river with the ocean.

Ship Size:

River Ships are smaller which makes it easier for navigation on shallow rivers and locks. They can dock almost anywhere and you can walk ashore easily.

Atmosphere:

The maximum capacity of the ocean boat is very big. So, you are more likely to feel crowded instead of relaxed and alone which is not the case with a riverboat.

Cabins:

The river ships have a water facing window so that you can see the world passing by inside your cabin. In cruise ships, the cabins have inside cabins which make it hard to take a peek.

Dining:

The ocean cruise has typical regimentation for dining whereas river ships allow you to sit informally making new friends while you dine.

Food:

The ocean ships keep the storage full for a longer period. But the river ships acquire fresh ingredients from the places they visit.

Destination:

Last but not least, the ocean ships allow you to travel to the major parts of a country only. But riverboats will allow you to explore smaller towns and local attractions too.
As a first-time river cruiser, you will have a lot of things to decide and you can easily get confused. But we will make sure that you make the most out of your holiday.

Itinerary:

The smaller boats can go to places we can only imagine really exists. When you step out of your house, you get to see the world with a whole new perspective. You get dropped to the shore right away instead of waiting for a boat to pick you up. But knowing where to travel is also essential. You can’t pick out the destination blindly. So, here are top picks for the river on which you will discover something new.

  • Snake and Columbia Rivers in Pacific Northwestern U.S.
  • Danube River in Europe
  • Moselle River in Europe
  • Yangtze River in China
  • The Nile in Africa
  • Elbe River In Europe
  • Rhine River in Europe
  • Amazon in South America

It is the enlightening and exciting itineraries which attract enthusiasts to make a new booking every year. Apart from this, you can also pick out a destination which is closer or the one you’ve heard of like Chobe, Mekong, or Duoro. All the rivers in Asia and Europe are quite impeccable and no matter which one you choose, it is undeniable that you will enjoy your trips.

The Best Time to Go On A River Cruise

Usually, you can pick out any time of the year to travel. But is the special occasion in a person’s life which dictates them to plan for a holiday riverboat cruising.
While you are making plans, considering the cost and availability is also important. The riverboats have fewer cabins which means they book up faster than you think. Along with the price and booking, you also have to take the weather of the country into consideration that you plan to visit.
Some people enjoy hot seasons while others like flowers and green landscapes of the spring season. Some travelers think about seeing snowfall in the winters and some just want to see the changing colors of autumn. Summer season is very common for holidays all around the globe. So, if you travel to a commonplace, you might feel crowded. Therefore, cruising in the spring or autumn season will help you to avoid the unwanted crowds and also be able to save a few bucks.

What to expect on a River Cruise?

On a river cruise, you get offered a wide range of selection. From food to cabins, you can choose everything according to your budget. Start planning your trip with bench marking the cruise lines that works fine for you. After you’ve decided your go-to destination, it will be easy for you to pick the right cruise.
The River Cruise industry has gained popularity in a small period due to the striking differences between the ocean boat trips and riverboats. The river cruising has a big advantage over their ocean counterparts. Small river ships can take you to the charming towns and villages. And in spite of the heavy charges and docking on industrial ports away from the main city, you reach the town right away. In most of the places, rivers run through the midst of the city and it makes it more beautiful. Thus, the travelers appreciate having easy access to the city instead of wasting their time to reaching to a special location. Plus, riverboats don’t even have tenders.
On a river cruise, you will get the over-the-top amenities such as movies, dining, exotic and traditional food, and an overwhelming ambiance. Everyone looks for these things in just one place. And now you’ve found the perfect thing that you can enjoy without feeling like wasting your days next to the sea.

So, hurry up and contact Jillian at Ever Ready Travel (630.965.0034 or Jillian@everreadytravel.com). Plan your first riverboat cruise trip with the help of a professional and you won’t be disappointed.

You will find that your blood circulation finds a steady rhythm. As you take more vacations, you can reap the benefits.

Traveling allows you forget all your worries, and be mindful of the moment. It improves your mind, body and soul at the same time. Thus, you will find mental peace. Even Cornell University found in their study that the people who travel get mental happiness and excitement before their trip.

They also found that thinking about a vacation is more beneficial than thinking about any earthly possession. Thus, the vacation takers get the benefits of traveling not only in their trip time, but also they begin to enjoy it before going on their trip.

The 1st group was planning a trip and the 2nd was not. The research found that group 1 was happier than the later. Moreover, they found the travel planner group was in good health, had a good mindset, good family relations, and better economic conditions than those who were not planning. Thanks for taking the time to read this week’s blog.  It is about a type of travel that I have become very fond of – Women Solo Traveling.  Most people think having gone to over 40 countries, that I have traveled solo to most of them.  The truth is, I have been very blessed to have found friends/family to join me on most of my trips.  Last year I took my first solo trip to Central America (Guatemala, Honduras, and Panama).  I was nervous about it, but planned my trip to have guided daily excursions, and it was AMAZING!  I made friends from all over the world and really enjoyed staying in a hotel room alone for the first time.  I grew, learned more about life and myself, and was most definitely transformed.  Because I enjoyed it so much, 2 months later, I went on another solo trip to Spain (Madrid, Cordoba, Seville, Granada, and Toledo) and Portugal (Lisbon, Fatima, Sintra, Cascais, Nazare, and Obidos).  I had meticulously planned both male and female solo trips for clients, but hadn’t taken one myself.  This isn’t only liberating for singles, but for parents and spouses to get time away and recharge.  I highly recommend trying it (or contacting me to help you plan another one if you already have felt this exhilaration)

There’s a sparkling facial expression reserved for women who decide to solo travel. It’s made up of widened eyes and an impish glee; the kind that sets a trail of gunpowder in your veins, ignites a fire in your chest and hits you with inspiration to travel somewhere new! C’mon darling, be adventurous! Listen to your inner self; let it spark and bring your soul out to play! You don’t have to have your whole life figured out to be able to travel alone. Once you get out there, you will learn that it isn’t such a scary idea; In fact, growing old without experiencing everything you want from life is much scarier. Life is too short not to chase your dreams; as Helen Keller points out, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”

Solo female travel is no longer as uncommon as it once was. Once you get on the road, you will meet plenty of other solo travelers just like you. You can experience the vehemence you never imagined! Traveling alone can be so social, so liberating and you will gain so much confidence once you fulfill this. Oh girl, just take the leap, stick to your plan and I promise it’s all going to be so worth it! So ready to try it yourself? Here’s a comprehensive guide for all you brave ladies. We have highlighted a few safe places to start with to make your travel easy and help you navigate your fears, dreams, plans, and everything in-between.

Chicago:

One of the best places to visit in Illinois for music, theatre and art is Barack Obama’s hometown! Chicago is a fantastic place to plan a solo travel adventure. To begin with, you can take a river architecture tour. This 90 minutes tour departing from Navy Pier will give you an insight into the history of the city and orient you with many of the downtown landmarks, sights of which you are most likely to lose when walking around. The next best thing you can do is get a seat facing the riverfront at the Signature Room which is like a lounge on the 95th floor of John Hancock Building, one of the city’s tallest buildings. Here, you will get a classic Chicago experience seeing the skyline from above and watching the amazing fireworks show at Navy Pier. You can also time your Chicago travel with the blues festival because this is the one American city where the world’s best blues musicians play cheap, regular shows all over the city. You can’t visit the city without eating a filling, delicious and totally unique deep dish pizza. Pizza rivalries run deep in the city and everybody has their favorite place but you simply can’t go wrong with Lou Malnati’s; I can’t recommend it more. Also, Chicago has some of the best world-class museums and no visit here can be complete without checking out at least a few of them. This can be a great solo travel activity as you get to contemplate the amazing artwork. The Art Institute of Chicago is the top museum in the entire United States with its rivals the Met in New York; you can spend days here but barely scratch the surface! Alternatively, you can also check out the largest collection of Latin American Artwork in the country at the Mexican Art Museum. There is also this gorgeous building of the Chicago Cultural Center which displays rotating exhibitions from local artists. So do not hesitate to travel solo and get absorbed in this iconic city!

Barcelona:

If you are considering solo travel in Spain, Barcelona is one of those unique cities you just don’t want to miss! I was just there for a second time last October and felt incredibly safe. The people are very welcoming and friendly. Every neighborhood in the city has its own distinct charm! Barceloneta, a fishing village surrounded on two sides by water should be your top choice if you want to stay close to the city’s beautiful beaches. Next, Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter) is your best bet if you want to be in the midst of action. This place in the heart of old town Barcelona is close to a medieval cathedral, former royal palaces and ancient roman towers. Eixample is ideal if you want to see some of the city’s most enchanting architectures. The center of this district is home to some of Anton Gaudi’s renowned buildings like Casa Batllo and Casa Mila as well as the city’s most superior shopping street, Passeig de Gracia. In the north-east part of the district you have the distinguished Sagrada Familia Church. El Born is another neighborhood for boho, artsy and creative travelers. It is widely recognized for its contemporary art and designs. This district is home to the ornate Palau de la Musica Catalana and the Museu Picasso and several Gothic Churches, markets and the sprawling Parc de la Ciutadella. Then you also have attractions along El Raval’s border with La Rambla such as Mercat de la Boqueria and MACBA contemporary art museum. This place will help you enjoy a higher end experience at a lower price!

San Francisco:

A hilly city in the Golden State, this is one of the California’s richest, biggest and most diverse places. It is a melting pot of heritage, history and culture. An incredible mix of places, people, culture, and adventures, the tourist attractions and sites in San Francisco range from views of sweeping bays, spectacular beaches, stunning landscapes (the Pyramids, houses of old famous artists, old salt Cathedrals and of course the world famous prisons!) to magnificent national and state parks; not to forget are the iconic architectural wonders like the famous Golden Gate Bridge and Heart Castle or the remarkable Hollywood sign and the gorgeous hills. Besides these must-see’s, the Painted Ladies is one of the most photographed spots in San Fran; a place which provides stunning contrast between the Victorian houses (SF history) and downtown skyscrapers (modern day SF). Going further north you will reach the ‘Ant-Man’ movie set tour; area famous for its hilly and winding 8 hairpin turns where scenes of the movie Ant-Man were filmed! As you make your way more on the northern side, you walk to the Union Square which is the heart of SF. It’s your city center full of stores, cars, restaurants, shopping and plazas. From here you can take a walk or even better get lost in one of the coolest Chinatowns in the country (there is even a fortune cookie factory that you can check out)! I was there for the third time last September. For something a bit different, head on to the Fisherman’s Wharf. It literally has everything you could think about- celebrity wax figures, 3D interactive films, shark feedings, dancing, music, theater, comedy, clubs, aquariums and yes, the famous sea lions! If you are into anything that has an engrossing history tied to it, you should definitely take the Alcatraz tour; it comes with a super interesting and well-detailed audio guide to takes you through the background of the famous prison. You can also hike up Kirby Cove and Lands End Trail or hikes such as Slacker Hill to get alluring views of Golden Gate. Oh boy! There’s so much more to do and see in this quirky, natural city! Indeed, solo travel in San Francisco is safe, easy, will suit your needs and make you feel empowered.

Let me be honest with you: solo travel might not always be all cozy and pretty. There might be moments where you won’t be comfortable alone. Sometimes it may hurt, you might even have an emotional break down, but that’s perfectly okay. Because the journey will transform you and it will change you in a good way. It will leave marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart and on your body. You will be able to take something with you and leave something good behind. “I think it’s very healthy to spend time alone. You need to know how to be alone and not be defined by another person”, notes Oscar Wilde. “Ten years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do and the choices that you didn’t make than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain

I grew up in a northwest suburb of Chicago. The elementary and middle school that I attended were pre-dominantly Caucasian.  I wasn’t exposed to other cultures/religions until high school.  My nuclear family consisted of three sisters and my parents. Four women under one roof flourished us into God loving, compassionate, and driven women.  My dad has always been self employed and I learned strong work ethics from him.  My mom was a passionate teacher and because of her I am a life longer learner.  Both of my parents are involved in Church, and instilled strong values and faith in all 3 of us.  Because of this, my parents always taught us that we are all God’s children and equal.  I made my first Indian American friend my freshman year of high school.  She was very studious and not “mainstream”.  I would love learning about her culture and Hindu religion.  My school was mainly segregated, as each nationality felt comfortable hanging out with people that looked and acted like them.  I was a maverick and desired to learn about people that were different than me.  To this day, I feel that travel is the only thing that you buy and it makes you richer.  It’s a way to contribute to world peace when you go to a different place and see how similar we are as humans (despite what media tells us).
My junior year of high school, I became best friends with a girl who moved from Jordan.  She was my first Middle Eastern, Muslim friend.  I was fascinated to know how school was for her back home and what the staple food was, along with her religious beliefs.  Everyone already had their cliques and because she had a strong accent and looked different, no one was interested in befriending her.  I would help her with her homework, and eventually gave up my study hall period to go to her ESL (English as a Second Language) class to help her and the other students.  This exposed me to more friends from different countries.  The bond we made grew into eternal friendships.  Through those connections, we destroyed any walls or misconceptions we had about each other and became like family members.  At the end of that year, I was invited to one of the Indian girls from ESL’s graduation get together.  I was the only non-Indian invited.  To my surprise there were no men there (except her brother).  Everyone was wearing traditional Indian clothes, so I said, “Hey!  I would like to dress up, too!”  Her eyes lit up from this statement of acceptance and she quickly ran to her mom’s room and let me pick up a salwar kamiz.  I immersed myself that day at her party in all the new experiences.  My 5 senses were stimulated, as I took every moment in.  I felt so comfortable in a completely different environment than what I am used to.  They showed me love and acceptance, and that day a desire to go to India was born in me.  I told my parents and they encouraged me to follow my dreams.  I told them I wanted to learn Hindi, Gujarathi, and Arabic (because of the friends I made that spoke those languages).  I felt a strong connection to them.  My Hindu friends to this day tell me I they have do doubt that in my previous life I was Indian.  They say my passion and love for everything that has to do with India is so unique and my book Hindi is more correct than their slang.  My parents bought me books and cassettes for Christmas that year and I began to teach myself daily.  I had notebooks that I would write the alphabets in repeatedly until I memorized the characters and started writing words and reading/comprehending sentences.  I began to buy Bollywood DVDs and listen to music.  The more I learned, the more I yearned for more!  I would go to Devon, the Indian neighborhood in Chicago to buy bindiya and wear colorful shapes in between my eyes to match my clothes.  Any chance I had, I would go to Indian functions with my jewelry and increased wardrobe of clothes.
Stay tuned to hear about my first trip to India and how I got my name in Hindi…

Ever since the intense cold gripped the Great Lakes State in December, I’ve been wanting to plan an escape somewhere to the comfortable temperatures on the Southwest coast. After much deliberation we came up with a plan to beat the wintry waves and head to the ultimate bustling Sin City!  There is no doubt that Vegas is the answer, no matter what the question is! A perfect location for bachelor and bachelorette parties, honeymoons and family vacations, Vegas’ popular attractions may seem like a splurge that only happens on certain occasions. But what about us young folks who are barely graduating college and scoring internships, or even those who can’t afford to pay for the huge price tag? How can we have fun and indulge in Vegas both in-style and on a budget? Here we give you some of our favorite tips and tricks to plan an epic vacation and live in the lap of luxury without breaking the bank.

To pace a perfect trip with a balance of indulgence and recovery so that you won’t feel like the toxic avenger on your plane ride back to home, it is important that you choose the right hotel for your trip. It can be daunting to have to choose between a stay on the Strip or off the Strip. The Strip is the heart of Las Vegas – a four-mile quintessential street lined by enormous billion-dollar casino resorts one after another. It’s the epicenter of the city, whether you’re looking to gamble, party, or just soak up the Las Vegas craziness. So it makes sense that you’d want to find a reasonably priced hotel on the Strip so that you can walk anywhere and everywhere, save transportation costs, avoid the crazy traffic, and be in the hub of things to experience maximum Vegas energy. Savvy Vegas visitors would also know that you can score a lot of cool perks as many hotels on the Strip throw in benefits for their guests. On my trip to Vegas I ended up staying at The Linq hotel which is right in the center of the Strip.  I highly recommend it!

Actually, you can travel the world without leaving the Strip – watch gondoliers at the Venetian, ascend to the top of the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge at New York, see the pyramids at the Luxor, an art deco look reminiscent of old Hollywood at The MGM Grand, visit the Bellagio’s botanical gardens, world renowned fountains and the check in area which holds more Murano glass than in Venice. You can also hang out with The Knights of the Round Table at The Excalibur, watch a volcano explode at the Mirage, experience the city from a bird’s-eye view in the High Roller Observation wheel at The Linq and scream your head off on the rides at the top of the Stratosphere. Don’t forget to commemorate your trip to Vegas with a snap at the historic Las Vegas sign. A little bit of this town goes a very long way.

You can head to the Downtown for a taste of Old Vegas and explore The Freemont Street also known as “Glitter Gulch”, historic casinos, live music, ziplines, vintage signs at the Neon Museum and the city’s Mafia story at the Mob Museum. And remember, if you’re going to gamble do yourself a favor and designate a certain amount of money that you are ‘ok with losing’.  That way you won’t overspend, but still have fun!

It’s obvious why they call Vegas an adult’s playground; musical performances, comedy routines, magic shows, nightclubs, circuses and acrobatic shows are ready available…and the list goes on. Everything and anything you want to do, you can do in Las Vegas. So pick one, pick them all, you’re sure to be mesmerized. If you want my recommendation, then “O” by Cirque Du Soleil will definitely get your adrenaline pumping.

If you don’t know this yet, Vegas is one of the foodie capitals of North America. More and more places are popping up all over the Sin City to satisfy any and every craving you could possibly have. You can hit the sweet spot between outrageously good food and maintaining your mission of Vegas on a budget with plenty of options such as Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Thai, OR just a big fat burger at In-N-Out. The extravagant buffets on the strip are worth experiencing at least once, too.  Not only do they have a huge variety of items, but they are well presented and the restaurants are so well decorated.  Whether you’re looking for a fancy night out or a quick bite, you’re never far from a tasty meal. One of my favorite budget options on the Strip is Hash House a go go.

I love to escape big cities in search of a little adventure no matter where I travel. So, we took a day tour to see the world’s spectacular engineering marvel- the Hoover Dam. Then we walked into a work of art in the dessert to see stacked boulders painted in vibrant neon colors: the Seven Magic Mountains. Afterwards, off to Red Rock Canyon we went! Red Rock Canyon features a one-way, 13-mile scenic drive with hiking trails, wildlife and geology to explore! You can stop to photograph scenic spots throughout the drive.

Well, there you have it- a trip to the international party city on a budget that’ll not only make your wallet proud but also keep your schedule and quality in equilibrium! Are you wanting help with planning a summer vacation? Mackinac (pronounced Mackinaw) Island is the ideal unique spot you are searching for! A place with more than just a fair share of nature’s majesty this awe-inspiring landscape is sure to take you a step back in time with its quaint charm; where fairytale weddings take place and summer memories are made! Many people reconsider getting married on the island! There’s some magic you feel here that keeps pulling you in and makes you want to keep returning.

One of your biggest decisions to make while planning your Mackinac Island trip may be to choose from the plenty of options of available places to stay: on the island, in nearby Mackinaw City or St. Ignace, or finding a nearby campsite off the island.  For full convenience, I recommend staying on the island. When I went, I booked a room at the Lilac Suites & Spa Hotel, and absolutely LOVED it! It is located in the heart of downtown and surrounded by restaurants, bars, island activities, shops, and near the ferry docks.  It’s a very charming ambiance with great service and the entire property has suites only. I went during the best time – Lilac festival. It is a 10 day celebration and the largest event on the island. I had never experienced lilacs like that. Most lilacs in the Midwest are gone by May, but in this nostalgic island they are in full bloom and bursting in color in June.  It is truly an unforgettable sight. Nowhere else in the world can you see lilacs grow up to 40 feet and be 100 years old. Walking up and down the streets and smelling the many lilacs is mesmerizing.

If you are on a budget and do not mind taking a ferry for a couple of consecutive days there and back, you are going to save you a lot of money to stay on “the mainland”. Both cities have plenty of hotels to choose from. If you’re looking for a hotel in the city of St. Ignace with freebies and discounts, I suggest to go with I have booked clients there and they were fully satisfied.  Also, be sure you drive over the Mackinac Bridge at least once (Ps. This isn’t the island) I’d hate for you to be that close to the world’s fifth largest suspension bridge and missing out the experience of driving on it! This is likely how you’ll get your first look at Mackinac Island. The view of the straits of Mackinac from the bridge is amazing. It’s also impressive when you look down, and all you see below you are the waves of lakes Michigan and Huron churning and crunching into each other.

If you do decide to find a place off the island, make sure you are up to speed with the local ferry schedules.
For most Mackinac Island visitors the shuttle is a necessary means of transportation to and from the island. What most people don’t emphasize, however, is that the ferry itself is a form of entertainment! Our 20 minute ride with Star Line provided incredible views of Lake Huron, the Mackinac Bridge, light houses, sailboats and Mackinac Island mansions. Grab a spot on the upper deck for a well-deserved indulgence and more spectacular views.

It won’t be wrong if you call this place seriously, where else do you see Clydesdales clopping down the street and not a vehicle in sight? With the lack of automobiles and abundance of historic architecture, it’s a special little island where you feel like you’ve time-traveled back to 1910. Since there are no cars allowed on Mackinac Island, biking is a lifesaver when you want to get from point A to point B quickly. There are several places on the island where you can rent bikes by the hour or day, so depending on your needs, you can pick one up when you get there. You’ll also see horse carriages jingle by on main street. If you’re an avid hippophile, you can hop in a horse taxi to get around town or go on a guided tour around the island in a carriage.

On Mackinac Island, you can’t throw a stone without hitting a fudge shop. The sweet smell fills the air downtown. My favorite is Ryba’s and my favorite flavors at Ryba’s are peanut butter and maple nut. People have been coming to Mackinac Island to buy fudge for over a century. It’s handmade in the shops while you watch. If you come to Mackinac, you have to buy fudge. It’s a tradition. Eat some while you’re there, and take some back to the folks at home. And even if you over-indulge on fudge (no judgement whatsoever!) you can burn those calories away by taking a walk or going for a bike ride around the island 😉 Also there are several admirable restaurants to choose from on Mackinac Island with cuisine ranging from hamburgers to high-end dinners.

Mackinac island is a world unto itself. Over 80% of the island is a Michigan State Park, the oldest one in the state established in 1895. You can watch rifle and cannon firing at Fort Mackinac. Parts of the fort are over 225 years old and here you’ll see people dressed in period clothing acting out rituals from that time. The trail that circles the island is eight miles long and takes you past many of the must-see landmarks. Arch Rock is one of the most iconic natural wonders on this trail, a 4,000 year old limestone formation standing 146 feet above the water. Devil’s Kitchen is a small cave carved out of the limestone by waves from Lake Huron. Dwightwood Spring is a natural spring flowing out of the limestone cliffs that surround the island. The incredible lake views with shockingly blue water make your leisurely stroll worthwhile, no matter where you go on the island! And while you enjoy the stupendous views leading through the sylvan settings, along shorelines, by rock formations and gorgeous panoramas, also make sure to relax, browse the shops on the main street, appreciate beautifully restored historic homes and soak up the interesting history of the island.

So hey, if you want to go see what the hype is all about, I completely get that! Book your summer weekend escape with Ever Ready Travel and rediscover America’s heartland with this bucket listed place. Especially for those living in the Midwest who can make an easy drive up to Mackinaw City, this road trip will certainly be a memorable one.

Great tips! Loved how everything was explained in details. I would love to see the world within the strip. Thank you for sharing.

You were and continue to be an Inspiration! I’ve learned about other people and cultures through you and hope to someday experience some of those places when I finally travel with some help from your agency! Just gotta figure out vacation time…
